Why you should be aware for OpenCloud Antivirus
Posted by Denny under Rogue Anti-Spyware
Users familiar with the much publicized Wolfram Antivirus rogue security tool will immediately identify the similarities in OpenCloud Antivirus – its latest clone’s interfaces –the System Scan, Privacy and Firewall skins. OpenCloud Antivirus improves on its predecessor’s attack in that it uses a more sophisticated assault against its victims – such as preventing users from accessing random system folders or their Internet connections. Although it is not easy to get rid of OpenCloud Antivirus, you will have to in order to protect your PC against its harmful tactics.
OpenCloud Antivirus is certainly aggressively marketed, but it uses the same infection methods as other rogue applications – these vary from infected online flash ads and sly browser hijacking websites which secretly installs the OpenCloud Antivirus infection onto vulnerable PCs. Users will not even be aware of the infection until OpenCloud Antivirus reveals its presence by starting its attack against the system. OpenCloud Antivirus edits registry entries so that it launches each time the user logs on to the system:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command “(Default)” = ‘C:\Program Files\conhost.exe “%1″ %*’
The rogue will start a fake system security scan each time the user logs on to the system. This fake scan will falsely report on false threats supposedly targeting the system. Annoying pop up messages will urge the userto purchase OpenCloud Antivirus at $52.95 in order to stave off these attacks. It will also attempt to sell the user a lifetime license for an additional $9.95.
Once the infection takes root in the system the user will no longer be able to launch applications on the system. This bogus alert will be generated each time the user attempts to do so:
Warning!
The file “taskmgr.exe” is infected. Running of application is impossible.
Please activate your antivirus software.
If you wish to manually remove OpenCloud Antivirus, these processes need to be killed:
wskinn.exe
OpenCloud Antivirus.exe
C:\Program Files\csrss.exe
If the rogue’s symptoms are rendering the system inoperable, enter this activation key:
DB038748-B4659586-4A1071AF-32E768CD-36005B1B-F4520642-3000BF2A-04FC910B
This should disable all annoying symptoms and falsely generated security alerts, but it will not destroy OpenCloud Antivirus. You still need to get rid of the rogue to protect your PC against its destruction. Never pay for any OpenCloud Antivirus product. This rogue is unable to protect your PC against any threat or infection. Restore your PC’s security and erase OpenCloud Antivirus permanently.
